Gene Alcantara ran independently for a London seat in the European Parliament.  The European Parliamentary elections were held on 4th June 2009.  The 8 seats in London were won by the main political parties, with 3 going to the Conservative Party, 2 to the Labour Party, 1 to the Libdems, 1 to the Greens and 1 to UKIP.

It was vital that Londoners get their voices heard and not lose their votes so participating in the elections was crucial.

The issues that Gene stood for were:
  • Fresh, Clean and Honest Politics
  • Fairness to every Londoner
  • Safety on our Streets
  • Available Health and Dental Care
  • Affordable Education for all
  • Affordable Housing

  • Poverty alleviation

  • Peacebuilding

  • the Working Time Directive

  • Support for Small Businesses

  • Equality

  • Protecting the Environment

He firmly believed in defending the rights of legal immigrants and ethnic minorities, but advocated tighter border and immigration controls.
